During her time with us, Sali managed a number of multi-countries research studies and evaluations. She was the designated safeguarding officer and provided support on protection and safeguarding across our projects. Her projects included managing the GSMA/UNHCR multi-country study exploding the digital lives of displacement affected communities in Lebanon, Papua New Guinea and South Sudan, and a LSE study on maternal health and protection in Nuba Mountains, in Sudan. She also led a participatory process to develop a toolkit to capture tacit knowledge among frontline humanitarians. She contributed to the baseline evaluation of Elrha’s Humanitarian Innovation Fund. Before joining The Research People, Sali worked extensively in public health and protection in humanitarian settings in 12 countries. She worked for various UN agencies and Red Cross Societies. She supported organisations in a variety of contexts to design evidence based humanitarian programs, measure their progress and impact. She chaired multiple humanitarian coordination processes including the sexual and gender based violence sub-working group and sexual and reproductive health sub-working group. Sali is now working as an independent consultant and a doctoral candidate at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She specialises in quantitative and qualitative methods, in particular participatory approaches and outcome harvesting. In the last three years, Linda has worked on 15 projects and led three. These included: ALNAP’s 2022 State of the Humanitarian System report where she coordinated the fieldwork in Bangladesh and Ethiopia; UNHCR and GSMA Foundation's research on the Digital Worlds of Displacement Affected Communities; and evaluations of Theirworld’s innovation awards and MIT D-Lab’s Creative Capacity Building programmes in Uganda and South Sudan among others. Her work on these projects included managing and mentoring Research Associates, development of research and evaluation tools, data collection (remote and in-person), and analysis, including the use of analysis software MaxQDA and Tableau, project management and report writing. What she enjoyed most about her work at The Research People was the diversity in clients and working within a positive environment that nurtured friendships as much as it did researchers. Before joining The Research People, Linda managed a project to distribute energy saving stoves in western Uganda, led content creation and operations for a human rights NGO and conducted research on fuel efficiency with Uganda’s Ministry of Energy. Hazel Laura Mugo research manager, Kenya Hazel is a monitoring and evaluation practitioner who has conducted research and evaluation studies for a wide range of organisations. Her areas of expertise range from education, youth development and evaluation use. She is also studying for a PhD on the use of evidence in education policy development, at the University of East Anglia. Since joining, she has worked on 5 different projects. During this time, Gemma supported tool development, data collection, analysis and write up of ALNAP's State of the Humanitarian System research, an evaluation of MIT D-Lab creative capacity building project in South Sudan and Elrha's Humanitarian Innovation Fund. In the last year she project managed the development of a learning paper for CDAC Network on their work in Fiji and Vanuatu, and an evaluation of Reset’s Homes for Ukraine matching service. Gemma has also spent time shaping the team’s thinking on intersectionality, and embedding this in TRP’s approach documents. Before joining The Research People, Gemma worked in academia and completed a PhD involving homeless youth in Tanzania. Gemma is a self-proclaimed methodology geek. She has loved how TRP has allowed her to critically engage with how to do robust research ethically, while giving her experience of working across many different subject areas, locations and sectors. Gemma is looking for a role that will harness her enthusiasm and keep challenging her to learn new research skills. Gemma cares about research that challenges structural injustices, builds evidence for inspiring change, and brings those with lived experience into the research process. She recently completed a Master’s degree in Global Health and Development with an emphasis on immigration and humanitarian contexts at UCL. She completed her Bachelor’s degree in medicine at the Universidad de la Sabana in Colombia and also holds a Master’s degree in Public Health and Environmental Risks from Descartes University in France.
