<image:title>About us - We believe that our work is best when delivered alongside researchers that have a personal understanding of disaster contexts.</image:title>
<image:caption>The research, evaluation and strategic advice available to most humanitarian decision makers is overwhelmingly commissioned, written and published by people who are not from countries where humanitarian programmes are being implemented. The short-term and rapid nature of most projects means that diverse researchers collect data together but that they rarely collaborate deeply to develop the analysis and insights that shape humanitarian evidence. We’re building a tight-knit global network of experienced researchers. But we also want to support more researchers from different parts of the world to develop careers in humanitarian research. You can join our newsletter to hear more about our upcoming courses for early career humanitarian researchers.</image:caption>

<image:title>About us - We envisage a future in which people affected by disasters can access better information, lead the response, and make their own choices.</image:title>
<image:caption>Humanitarians often inadvertently undermine local capacities that are vital for protection and future resilience. We work with researchers, organisations, and individuals who have ideas about how to strengthen local responses. We think deeply about the role of local organisations and other actors and have led and contributed to many large studies focussed on localisation. All of our team have worked or volunteered for local or national NGOs and we aim to do a couple of projects each year with a local organisation as a client.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Founding Director, UK Lydia started The Research People in 2017 to bring together researchers from different disciplines, backgrounds, and places to do research and evaluation that would influence humanitarian organisations for the better. She’s really proud of what we’ve achieved. In the last six years Lydia has led the team to deliver over 80 projects for more than 20 clients, including NGOs, UN agencies and universities. She’s worked on some really great projects recently: ALNAP's State of the Humanitarian System research; GSMA Foundation's research on the Digital Worlds of Displacement Affected Communities; evaluations of MIT D-Lab and Elrha's Humanitarian Innovation Fund; alongside many others. The work we've done at The Research People has caused us to think more deeply about humanitarian response and innovation and Lydia feels lucky to have done it while building a truly brilliant team. For the next few months, Lydia will be working with the team to wrap up current projects as well as being a mum to her four-month-old. In the meantime, we’re still doing world-class consulting so please share TORs or other ideas that you think might be a good fit for us. We’re passionate about our work and plan to take on a few special contracts as we work out TRP's direction going forwards. You can see more about Lydia’s professional background on LinkedIn. <image:caption>Research Manager Linda joined The Research People in 2019 to support the growing team’s operations and co-ordinate research activities (like organising FGDs and logistics for fieldwork). Since joining, her role has changed twice to enable her to take on more responsibilities and leadership in conducting research, monitoring and evaluation. In the last three years, Linda has worked on 15 projects and led three. These included: ALNAP’s 2022 State of the Humanitarian System report where she coordinated the fieldwork in Bangladesh and Ethiopia; UNHCR and GSMA Foundation's research on the Digital Worlds of Displacement Affected Communities; and evaluations of Theirworld’s innovation awards and MIT D-Lab’s Creative Capacity Building programmes in Uganda and South Sudan among others. Her work on these projects included managing and mentoring Research Associates, development of research and evaluation tools, data collection (remote and in-person), and analysis, including the use of analysis software MaxQDA and Tableau, project management and report writing. What she enjoyed most about her work at The Research People was the diversity in clients and working within a positive environment that nurtured friendships as much as it did researchers. Before joining The Research People, Linda managed a project to distribute energy saving stoves in western Uganda, led content creation and operations for a human rights NGO and conducted research on fuel efficiency with Uganda’s Ministry of Energy. Linda is looking for a role that will enable her to utilise the research and evaluation skills she has developed while challenging her to learn and grow her skills. Linda enjoys working collaboratively, learning from others and refining processes. You can see more about Linda’s professional background on LinkedIn. Her projects include project-managing the first half of the fieldwork component for ALNAP’s State of the Humanitarian System, the midline of an impact evaluation for the Humanitarian Innovation Fund and an evaluation of UNHCR’s Innovation Fund. She is currently working on a third party monitoring project for Grand Challenges Canada’s Creating Hope in Conflict programme, and an evaluation of Reset’s Homes for Ukraine matching service in the UK.
